Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is a national provider of engaging, hands-on curriculum and classroom experiences designed to empower students to develop in-demand knowledge and skills they need to thrive. They also provide teachers the training, resources, and support they need to engage students in real-world learning.

At Meridian Early College High School, students have the opportunity to participate in two PLTW programs:

PLTW Engineering

From launching space exploration to delivering safe, clean water to communities, engineers find solutions to pressing problems and turn their ideas into reality. PLTW Engineering empowers students to step into the role of an engineer, adopt a problem-solving mindset, and make the leap from dreamers to doers. The program's courses engage students in compelling, real-world challenges that help them become better collaborators and thinkers. Students take from courses in-demand knowledge and skills they will use in high school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take.

GeoDesign

Use modern drafting tools to solve real-world design problems while learning geometry. Includes congruence, similarity, right triangles, trigonometry, circles, expressing geometric properties with equations, geometric measurement and dimension, modeling, and the fundamentals of mathematical practice.
Students who earn a C or better in GeoDesign receive six (6) articulated credits in Delta College's CAD 114 and DRF 121 courses.

Principles of Engineering

Through problems that engage and challenge, students explore a broad range of engineering topics, including mechanisms, the strength of structures and materials, and automation. Students develop skills in problem solving, research, and design while learning strategies for design process documentation, collaboration, and presentation.

PLTW Biomedical Science

Whether discovering new cancer treatments or teaching healthy lifestyle choices to their communities, today's biomedical science professionals are tackling big challenges to make their world a better place.

PLTW Biomedical Science students are taking on these same real-world challenges – and they are doing it before they even graduate from high school. Working with the same tools used by professionals in hospitals and labs, students engage in compelling, hands-on-activities and work together to find solutions to problems. Students take from the courses in-demand knowledge and skills they will use in high school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take.

Principles of Biomedical Science

This introductory course offers students the opportunity to explore the concepts of basic biology, human physiology, medicine, and contributions of biotechnology to health and the human condition. Students are required to master technical terminology, learn proper laboratory techniques, understand biotechnology policies and procedures, and participate in dissections.

Students examine the interactions of human body systems as they explore identity, power, movement, protection, and homeostasis in the body. Exploring science in action, students build organs and tissues on a skeletal Maniken®; use data acquisition software to monitor body functions such as muscle movement, reflex and voluntary action, and respiration; and take on the roles of biomedical professionals to solve real-world medical cases.
