Our Story

Meridian Jr. High School is a comprehensive public school offering grades five through eight. As part of Meridian Public Schools, we proudly serve the communities of Sanford, Edenville, and Hope Michigan.

With an enrollment that varies between 400 and 420, all of our students have ample opportunities to be part of something. We offer a wide range of courses, clubs, and athletic programs. With so much to do, there is something to interest every member of our student body.

At Meridian Jr. High School, people know each other. Our students and teachers work closely together to form relationships. In addition to these benefits, students report feeling safe in our school and are proud to be Mustangs.

Academics

Meridian Jr. High School is the only middle school in Michigan that is a member of the New Tech Network (NTN). With Project-Based Learning (PBL) being the core of our instructional approach, we believe we offer teaching that engages, a culture that empowers, technology that enables, and outcomes that matter.

Teaching That Engages:

By engaging students through project-based learning, students become problem-solvers. Teachers design complex, authentic challenges that engage students, require them to demonstrate mastery of knowledge, and foster written and oral communication skills.

Culture That Empowers:

By making learning relevant and creating a collaborative learning culture, students become connected to, engaged with, and challenged by their school, teachers and peers. MJHS promotes a culture of safety, respect and responsibility.

Technology That Enables:

Through a technology-rich environment, teachers and students create, communicate, access information, and experience self-directed learning. Echo, NTN’s online learning platform, supports project-based learning and features an innovative grade book.

Outcomes That Matter:

Learning outcomes also measure collaboration, written and oral communication, and students’ responsibility for their own learning. Performance assessments measure the knowledge and thinking of students to help them become proficient in producing quality work.

Student Support

The Meridian Jr. High School (MJHS) Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework aims to create a school environment that ensures learning for all students. It is a broad-based set of proactive approaches integrated with school wide systems to support students both behaviorally and academically.

Our Academic Support Center (ASC) and our Behavioral Support Center (BSC) provide the main hubs for our system of supports. The ASC is staffed by certified teachers and is open to all students to receive academic help throughout the day. The BSC is staffed by a paraprofessional and is overseen by our Dean of Students to offer a place for students to turn their day around if needed.
