Shoutout to Meridian Director of Bands Matthew Shephard, who presented at the Michigan Music Conference, in a standing room only session, last week about the Meridian Music program. The band program that Meridian offers includes students from grades 5th through 12th, and also includes opportunities like marching band, concert band, jazz band at the Junior High and High School level, solo and ensemble opportunities and so much more. A community point of pride for us, Meridian is proud of Mr. Shephard and Mr. O'Connell for their hard work with the band program, making it what it is today. Fun fact - did you know that Mr. O'Connell is a Meridian Band Alumni? Go Blue! #ReachHigher #MeridianMustangs #SmallSchoolBIGOpportunities

The Mustang wrestling team brought the fire this weekend to the Carrollton Team Tournament, going 4-1 on the day, earning a second place finish. Coach Sampson said "We did a fantastic job today of putting matches away when we had the chance. These kids just continue to embrace the grind and their success is well earned. Beating Frankenmuth after losing the championship at Mio last week to them was a big win for us as well." You can truly see the passion shown on the mat this weekend by the wins shown below:
Going 5-0 for the Mustangs were: Brodie Pierce 132/138, Scottie Garrison 190/215, and Cooper Walser Hwt.
Going 4-0 were: Memphis Nelson 113, and Austin Bourassa 190/215.
Going 4-1 for Meridian was Alex Sampson 106/113, Karson Yancer 150, and Logan Brawt 157/165. Aiden Methner 165/175 went 3-2. Logan Garrison 120 and Steven Davis 126/132, and Scott Hovarter 126/132 all won twice. Carter Miller 144, Conner Ensing 215, and Evan Tiede 138 each won once today.
Meridian opened the day with a 62-10 win over a combined Carrollton/Marlette team. The Mustangs then defeated North Branch 69-12 before defeating MLS 43-27 and then Frankenmuth 60-18. Meridian fell in the finals to Swan Valley 31-46.
MECHS Junior, Austin Bourassa was named the Upper Weight MVP for the tournament. Congratulations Austin! 🤼♂️

🎓 Leadership in Action. Learning in Motion.
At the Michigan Association of School Administrators Mid-Winter Conference, Superintendent Glann exemplified what it means to lead as a learner. While continuing her own professional learning, she also shared her expertise in school finance with fellow superintendents through her session:
“Fiscal Oversight Matters: Key Look-for’s in School Finance & Operations.”
At every level, Mustangs Are Learners 🐎—growing, leading, and lifting others along the way. 👏📊

Well, it appears that someone must have been watching the movies Frozen 1 & 2, and summoned Elsa to cast a wintery spell upon Michigan and plunge us into a blanket of iciness. ❄️ When it gets this cold outside, don't lick the basketball hoop pole. Your tongue will freeze to it. Don't ask us how we know... 🥶😂 Stay safe and warm tomorrow, Mustangs, but don't step in a puddle, Olaf will be watching! ☃️ We will see you all back in the hallways on Monday! A decision on evening events will be made around noon tomorrow and will be posted on social media and our website. The NHS blood drive scheduled for tomorrow has been CANCELLED. #ReachHigher #MeridianMustangs #SnowDay

Meridian would like to send a huge thank you to the Grove Jazz Festival Board for making tonight's festival possible and for their continued support of jazz education and performance! Special appreciation to our guest clinician from Purdue University, Bethany Robinson, Director of Jazz, and her talented students for sharing their expertise and working with our musicians during today’s clinic. 🎶 🎷
The Meridian Jazz Band was honored to share our stage tonight with students from Midland Public Schools (Midland High & Dow High) and Bay City Central High School. 🎸 Tonight's clinic and concert showcased students' hard work and what powerful collaboration and a true celebration of learning through music looks like. Thank you Purdue Bands & Orchestras students and Professor Robinson for instructing our students and the fantastic concert! 💙 🤍 🎹 #ReachHigher #MeridianMustangs
